KAMPALA- As most schools in the country reopen for third term, the police has issued road safety guidelines for the safety of all school going children.

Police noted that road safety of all children is a collective responsibility of the security agencies, parents and guardians, other road users nit forgetting the school going children themselves.

Here below is the police statement on road safety for children ahead of third term Schools reopening.

As schools reopen for the third term, the safety of our children on the roads is of utmost importance. Road safety is not only an individual responsibility but also a collective one. Let’s work together to prevent crashes involving school-going children. Here are the road safety guidelines for:

*Students:*

1. Use designated taxi and boda-boda stages.

2. Stay alert and avoid distractions while walking/crossing roads.

3. Move in groups and cross roads in single file.

4. Check vehicle registration numbers before boarding.

5. Walk on the right-hand side, facing oncoming traffic.

6. Cross roads carefully (check right, left, and right).

*Parents/Guardians:*

1. Teach children road safety rules.

2. Accompany young children to/from school.

3. Ensure helmets for pupils and cyclists.

4. Use safe and reliable school transport.

*Motorists:*

1. Slow down near schools and pedestrian crossings.

2. Be cautious of children crossing roads.
