The Police in Kisoro District have arrested two prime suspects identified as Irankunda Gerard alias Ndereya and Habyarimana Vallence during a joint intelligence-led operation which was conducted last night.
Kigezi Regional Police Spokesman Elly Maate told journalists that the two were arrested from Karumena and Kisoro hill villages respectively.
Maate explained that while carrying out a search at their homes, an AK 47 gun with one magazine, one live ammunition, one pair of a Police Kakhi trousers and one pair of Police Jungle boots wete recovered.
Maate said that the two have confessed to having participated in four armed robberies in Kisoro district in the areas of aMugombero Town Center, Natate and Mutorole where reports were indeed registered and arrests made.
Those earlier arrested included one Irankunda is alleged to have
escaped from Ruti Police Station in Mbarara while under interrogation by the Flying Squad Unit Mbarara after they had picked him up from Kisoro.
Maate saud that the operation is still ongoing and this break through will help us focus more efforts on tracing for other suspects who are still at large to enable the Police recover more exhibits and have the suspects prosecuted in courts of law.
