NEWS- The territorial Police of Kisoro District are investigating circumstances under which a 35 year old Uwimana Radisi Baker alias Byirimana, a resident of Rugyendabare village, Rutaka parish in Nyundo sub county, Kisoro district was allegedly shot and died instantly.
ASP Elly Maate the Kigezi Region Police spokesman told the press that in the night of 1st December 2023 at about 8pm at Rugyendabare village, the deceased went and attacked one Komuhangi Stephen who was in his shop/bar and started forcefully demanding for money while threatening to assault him with a club before some people who were there chased him away.
The residents allege that he kept on coming back with the same bad intention until he lastly grabbed the said Komuhangi Stephen, squeezed him by the neck so hard but still some people rescued him.
On seeing that he was becoming a security threat, they rang PC Bazimaziki Wilson, apparently guarding Chameleon Hotel which is about 500 meters away from the scene of crime, who responded.
Maate adds that on trying to arrest the said suspect from his place of residence where he had hidden, he (now the deceased) allegedly picked a panga to harm the said police officer.
The mentioned Police officer shot him on leg tibia causing him to fall down and the panga was recovered from him, taken to Kisoro hospital for medical attention but he died on the Way.
GEF was opened, a team of officers was dispatched to the Scene of crime which was visited, analyzed and documented, statements from relevant witnesses were obtained and Komuhangi Stephen was issued with a medical form for medical examination. Postmortem examination was done and the body handed over to relatives for burial as Police inquiries are at hand.
Relatedly, the Police in Kisoro district have initiated investigations into the death of a 52 year old Sezibera Francis, resident of Mataba village, Soko parish in Muramba Sub County, Kisoro District.
Maate confided to this reporter that it was reported that in the afternoon of 2nd December 2023, the deceased left his home for an evening socialization but he didn’t go back home.
In the morning of 3rd December 2023, his body was found naked dumped in the sorghum garden by village footpath with multiple open and closed wounds, strangulation line marks on the neck as his pair of trousers and other clothes he was dressed in yesterday were by his side.
Police notes that the motive of the murder remains un-established as a case file was opened, a team of Police officers were dispatched to the scene of crime, analyzed and documented, statements from relevant witnesses obtained and the body was conveyed to Muramba Health centre III mortuary for a postmortem examination.
