KAMPALA- The Police have arrested its own officer attached to the counter terrorism tactical team PC Alex Adei, who went on the run after allegedly shooting his X-wife, Barbra Apia, on Sunday night.
ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, the deputy spokesperson for Kampala metropolitan police, has confirmed the arrest of the suspect in Jinja district where Adei was hiding.
The suspect, who has been residing in Naguru police barracks, killed his x- wife at around 9 pm. The murder has been attributed to a longstanding domestic misunderstanding.
However, during the Scene of Crime Officers’ (SOCO) examination of the scene this morning, another body of a man was discovered in a nearby hut, lying in a pool of blood.
Owoyesigyire says the second victim, also a police officer, was caught in the crossfire. The suspect will be transferred back to Kampala to faces charges of murder.
“We condemn these acts of behavior of officers being allowed to move with guns after duty. This has resulted into more killings between officers in domestic misunderstandings.” Owoyesigyire said.
Adei, originally from Nyakwe village in Abim District, reportedly has a history of using his firearm to settle disputes. It is alleged that he once shot and killed a Karamojong man, framing him as a warrior.
Additionally, it’s reported that he shot his brother, leaving him disabled after a quarrel.
