NEWS- The Police in Mbarara City working together with the local leadership of Kiyanja cell and Mandela cell in Mbarara City Oon July 31st 2024 apprehended 5 suspects in connection with vandalism of street lights and National Water and Sewerage Corperation equipment.
The suspects in Police custody at Central Police Station Mbarara include Ahereza Price 19 years, Rwamirama Inton 20 years and Ndyamuhaki Amon 17 years, all scrap store keepers from Kiyanja cell, Kamukuzi division.
Others are Kwikiriza Swamadu 47 years businessman and Bainomugisha Edson 33 years scrap store keeper from Mandela cell, Kakoba division in Mbarara City.
SP Samson Kasasira the Rwizi Region Police Spokesman told the press that they were able to recover 14 solar batteries of 12 voltage, 1 solar charger controller, 13 water meters, 34 taps/ joints, electric cables, electric meters and breaking implements all exhibited.
According to Kasasira, Police is tracing for the owners of the scrap stores Ukasha Tonny and Nuwasiima Johnbosco who are still at large.
He adds that working with the relevant authorities including the Mbarara City Council, National water and UMEME, the Police is trying to identify the recovered items.
He who stressed that inquiries into the matter are still ongoing noted that a statement on interference with meters, works or public lamps (vandalism) has been registered at CPS Mbarara.
