NEWS– President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has described the coming of missionaries who established churches that they pioneered transformation of the communities in rural Uganda.

President Museveni made the remarks on Sunday, January 7th 2024, in a speech read for him by the Vice President Major Jessica Alupo Epel at the celebrations to mark 100 years of Our Lady of Good Shepherd, Rushoroza Catholic Parish in Kabale Municipality where he said that the missionaries coming brought the establishment of schools and health facilities.

President Museveni hailed the leadership of Kabale Diocese under the leadership of Bishop Callist Rubaramira which has ensured continued development in the entire Kigezi area and contributed Ugx 50 million towards the rehabilitation of Rushoroza Cathedral.

The President called on christians to embrace the wealth creation campaigns of the government in order to create jobs and eliminate household poverty.

The Vice President Major Jessica Alupo said that the Church has helped in shaping of good morals and good neighboursliness which are needed for any community to develop and contributed Ugx 15 million towards the cause of rehabilitating the Cathedral.

During his sermon, Bishop Callist Rubaramara asked the christians to keep the fire of faith strong since it’s what has helped them achieve the 100 years of christianity.

The service was presided over by the Papal Nuncio in Uganda Bishop Luigi Bianco and was attended by several Ministers, Members of Parliament former MPs and local government leaders from the entire Kigezi Sub-region where over Ugx 300 million was raised for the rehabilitation of the Cathedral. 

During the function, the Minister of Finance, Planning and Economic Development in Charge of General Duties Hon Henry Musasizi Aluganyira hailed Major Alupo, and other dignitaries for honoring to represent the President congratulated Rushoroza cathedral parish for 100 years and pledged 20 seats (pews) worth Ugx 30 million in addition to Ugx 3 million he earlier contributed for the days organisation.
