President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has fulfilled his pledge of Ugx 50 million, he made made during the launch of Rev Fr Narcisio Bagumisiriza’s book titled, ‘African Customary and Christian Marriages Compared’.
The money was delivered on Saturday by the Minister of Finance Planning and Economic Development, Hon Henry Musasizi Aliganyira, who had represented the President at the book launch on April 4th, 2024.
While delivering President Museveni’s message, Minister Musasizi recalled that Rev Fr Bagumisiriza was among the first people to receive Museveni and his Uganda Patriotic Movement (UPM) when the President sought to challenge the UPC government in the 1980 elections and he later supported and mobilized for the NRM.
“This is a reminder that President Museveni does not forget his historical people. Fr Bagumisiriza is one of those who spread the good news of the NRM . Many years later, the President has rewarded him,” He said.
Minister Musasizi also noted that President Museveni does not forget the pledges he makes, saying that the fulfillment of the pledge to Rev Fr Bagumisiriza should give hope to those awaiting other presidential pledges, because the “Fountain of Honour” will fulfil them at the right time.
“As you’ve heard, the President made this pledge of Ugx 50 million when I represented him at the book launch over two years ago. At the time, I was still State Minister of Finance. A few days ago, I met the President, and he gave me the package for Fr Bagumisiriza,” Musasizi said.
Fr Bagumisiriza said he developed the idea for the book, ‘African Customary and Christian Marriages Compared’, while pursuing his PhD in Rome, Italy.
He said the book seeks to address several issues, including the curiosity of unmarried Africans, especially Christians, who want to understand the harmony between customary and Christian marriage.
“The book also seeks to encourage people to embrace formal marriage, especially Christian marriage, which addresses a number of uncertainties because Jesus Christ is at the centre,” Fr Bagumisiriza said.
Minister Musasizi urged Fr Bagumisiriza to use the money received from President Museveni to transform the people around him socially and economically and also asked him to use available platforms to preach the Government’s message of transforming communities stuck in subsistence, to the money economy.
Rev Fr Bagumisiriza is currently a lecturer at the National Major Seminary, Katigondo in Masaka.
