KAMPALA- President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has today met a delegation from the European Union Mission in Uganda led by His Excellency Jan Sadek at State House Entebbe.

President Museveni and the European Union delegation discussed a number of issues of the security in the region and South Sudan.

His Excellency Sadek told President Museveni that the European Union aims for a stable, resilient and peaceful South Sudan, focusing on supporting peace, democracy and human rights, while also addressing humanitarian needs and promoting development.

The European Union actively works to prevent the escalation of conflict in South Sudan and supports the implementation of peace agreements, and promotes dialogue and reconciliation.

The European Union is concerned about human rights violations, including sexual and gender-based violence, violence against children and limitations on civic space and provides humanitarian aid to address the needs of vulnerable populations affected by conflict, displacement, and other crises, including food insecurity and disease outbreaks.

The European Union is a major donor to South Sudan, providing humanitarian aid to address the needs of vulnerable populations, including those affected by conflict, displacement, and food insecurity and supports long-term development through programs focused on areas like economic growth, education, healthcare and good governance.

The European Union has been engaging with South Sudanese leaders and civil society to promote peace, democracy, and human rights, and to support the implementation of peace agreements and supports the strengthening of the justice system in South Sudan through capacity building and technical assistance, aiming to promote transparency and fairness.

On the issue of human rights, the European Union is concerned about human rights issues in South Sudan, including violence against civilians, sexual and gender-based violence and restrictions on civic space.

The European Union has provided emergency humanitarian funding to support the World Health Organization (WHO) and the International Organization for Migration (IOM) in their efforts to address the ongoing cholera epidemic and has a multiannual development program in South Sudan, covering areas like green and resilient economy, human development, education and health and good governance, peace and rule of law.

The European Union has a delegation in South Sudan that works to strengthen EU-South Sudan relations and advance peace, stability, and development.

Support for the Revitalised Agreement on the Resolution of Conflict in South Sudan (R-ARCSS) and is actively supports the implementation of the R-ARCSS, which aims to bring about a lasting peace in South Sudan.

It provides funding for humanitarian organizations working in South Sudan, ensuring that vulnerable populations receive the assistance they need and is calls on South Sudan’s leaders to take immediate action to prevent the nation from plunging back into full-scale conflict.

The appeal comes as tensions rise in Juba and other areas, threatening to unravel the fragile 2018 peace agreement between President Salva Kiir and First Vice President Dr. Riek Machar.
