President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni Tibuhaburwa

KIRUHURA– President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has issues critical security issues facing the country, with particular emphasis on the persistent threat posed by the Allied Democratic Forces.

While speaking from his home in Rwakitura in Kiruhura District on Tuesday evening, President Museveni outlined a comprehensive message touching on key points which are crucial for the nation’s stability and progress.

President Museveni emphasized that the nation’s strength lies in addressing internal weaknesses such as bad governance and ideology and expressed confidence in potential for success and dismissed foreign influence, calling on citizens to focus on combating corruption in the country and underscored the importance of environmental protection linking it to agriculture and rain systems. 

President Museveni issued a strong warning to the ADF rebel group and asked them to cease hostilities immediately or face inevitable destruction and urging the general public to discourage ADF members from further violence since they will not survival.

The President warning to the Allied Democratic Forces, marks a significant moment in the ongoing efforts to ensure the nation’s security and stability.

The President Museveni concluded his address by announcing his intention to run for the presidency in 2026 and this declaration adds a new layer to Uganda’s political landscape, setting the stage for discussions and speculations about the future leadership of the nation.

Meanwhile President Museveni has pledged to support a British company which has developed a technique for inserting a deadly gene into mosquitoes in partnership with Uganda Virus Research Institute to combat malaria.

This was revealed yesterday during a meeting between President Museveni and Oxitec Chief Executive Officer, Grey Frandsen at a meeting in Rwakitura and welcomed the Company Oxitec to Uganda and pledged to support their idea of partnering with Uganda to join efforts in fighting malaria in the country.

Oxitec’s gene modification technique operates in a way that after mating, the transferred gene gets passed to the offspring of the mosquito, which dies before reaching adulthood and the President pledged to offer all the necessary support to the institution to come up with a solution to fight the life-threatening disease.

The company has used the technology in Brazil since 2011, and has been exploring projects in Panama, Djibouti, and the Marshall Islands and the meeting was also attended by the Minister of Health, Dr Jane Ruth Aceng, the Director of Uganda Virus Research Institute Prof Pontian Kaleebu, the Director Health Services in the Ministry of Health, Dr Joseph Okware.
