NEWS– The Police in Sheema District are have mounted a hunt and investigations to establish circumstances under which eight suspects escaped from Police cells.

According to SSP Marcial Tumusiime, the Greater Bushenyi Police spokesperson, confirmed the incident that occurred on Thursday, August 1, 2024, at around 3:20 AM at Sheema Central Police Station.

Tumusiime notes that the eight male suspects escaped through an aluminum roof on the toilet window.

The regional Police spokesman identifies the suspects Jocknions Akampa, charged with murder, Hakim Matoove, charged with burglary and theft, Aggrey Musika, charged with criminal trespass, Ambrose Byamukama, charged with burglary and theft and Asingwire Musinguzi, charged with theft.

Others are Benson Mpumwire, charged with theft, Ashraf Tugume, charged with stealing a motor vehicle and Accum Clinton, charged with aggravated robbery.

SSP Tumusiime stated that investigations are underway, including obtaining statements from the police officers on duty, who may be charged with neglect of duty.

A case of escape from lawful custody has been filed against the suspects, and efforts to re-arrest them are ongoing.
