NTUNGAMO- Property owners (Land lords) in Central Division Ntungamo Municipality have been urged to pay property rate taxes or risk being summoned to courts of law.
According to the senior assistant town clerk Central Division Ainomugisha Coleta, they will not charge property rate taxes accrued to 4 years due to failure by the property owners to meet their tax obligation yet the tenants pay their monthly rent.
Ainomugisha made remarks on Thursday while laying the draft budget of UGX 349M for the financial year 2024/2025 during the Central Division council meeting.
She noted that the defiant property owners will be served with court summons indicating that their properties will be attached if they fail to pay the taxes which have accumulated to over 100m.
Coleta revealed that a Property rate is a fee collected on commercial buildings annually in order to extend services to the communities hence asking the councilors and leaders at all levels to cooperate as the only way to mobilize tax revenue to the Division.

The authorities assess the fees based on the income the building generates after deducting the maintenance expenditure from the gross income which ranges between 1-12% of the net income.
The chairman LCIII Central Division Robert Mugisha Kanyate also hailed the council for laying a draft budget before the council in time, appealing to them to sensitize the communities on tax obligations before arresting them.
