NEWS- The Uganda Police Force in Pallisa District are holding a teacher accused of assaulting two minor brothers, resulting in the death of one of them.

According to Moses Kitiyo Mwanga, the Bukedi North Region Police Commander, the incident occurred at Omotoi Primary School on Thursday.

Two minor brothers, 14-year-old Tom Okuwani and 16-year-old Stephen Oonyo, visited their sister, Beatrice Ikiror, to retrieve UGX 1000 she had taken with her.

However, teachers and school administrators mistakenly suspected the boys of being in love with their sister and subjected them to severe caning. The two victims were seriously beaten and were left to return home, where their health rapidly deteriorated.

It should be remembered that last month, the Ntungamo Magistrate’s Court in Ntungamo District has charged and remanded two teachers from Standard College Rwashamaire, who were seen in a viral video assaulting a student.

Aneb Mwesigye and Naboth Twesigye were charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

They pleaded not guilty to the offenses and were remanded until March 4, 2025, for a mention of their case.

The incident allegedly took place after the teachers accused 16-year-old Brian Akampa, a Form Two student, of escaping from the school grounds.

It is alleged that Akampa had gone to Rwashamaire town to eat chapati and beans, locally known as ‘Kikomando,’ before returning to the school.

In the widely shared video clip, the two teachers mercilessly flogged Akampa and when he tried to run amidst pleas to be forgiven, he was grabbed at the door and slapped hard.
