NEWS- The Police in Kanungu District have arrested a retired UPDF Officer identified as Bariyo Benson a resident of Kyamugaga cell in Nyarutojo Parish in Kambuga Sub county for allegedly cutting one Moses Kihwahwa with a panga, killing him instantly.
Kigezi Regional Police Spokesman ASP Elly Maate told journalists that Bariyo was returning from his farm with the panga via Kyamugaga Trading Center where he sat at the home of Zubedda Kababule near the area chairman’s home. They started charting about how one Junior; a village mate, had kept stealing home items and selling them to Moses Kihwahwa, a known opium smoker and drunkard.
That’s when Kihwahwa came with a stick from the back to hit the retired soldier on the head, but the former army man got up to hold the stick. It’s during the scuffle that the deceased Kikwahwa got cut deeply by the panga accidentally on the hand and started serious bleeding. He was thereafter rushed to Kambuga Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Maate said that the home of Bariyo has been cordoned off to stop a revenge action by some residents who wanted to burn his house and a case of murder was registered under reference number SD 05/20/02/2024 to help in investigations.
