RUKUNGIRI- Hundreds of believers, from all walks of life on Saturday, March 1st 2025 thronged Kayanga Catholic Church in Kisizi parish, Nyarushanje sub county Rukungiri district to attend the first sacrifice of mass led by Rev. Fr. Lawrence Amanya.
Rev. Fr. Amanya was ordained on 28th February 2025 at our lady of perpetual help Nyamitanga cathedral under the congregation of the Blessed Sacrament together with Rev. Fr. Kamusiime cerenzio from Bwizibwera parish Mbarara Arch diocese, Rev. Fr. Ngahamire Ambrose from Kashekuro parish –Mbarara.
Others were Rev. Fr. Nuwahereza Sebastian from Rushoka parish -Mbarara, Rev. Fr. Mubangizi Henry, from Rushoka parish -Mbarara, and Rev. Fr. Namanya M. Justus from Kashekuro parish in Mbarara Arch diocese.
According to Rev. Fr. Elias Kasigaire, the Nyarushanje parish Priest, Rev. Fr. Lawrence Amanya’s ordination increased the number of Priests born in Nyarushanje Parish to 14 in addition to 34 Reverend Sisters.

During his sermon, Rev. Fr. Purasid Mugumya, the Kabale Diocesan Bishop’s secretary described the roles of a Priest including offering sacrifices of mass, praying for the sick, offering sacraments to Christians among others.
Rev. Fr. Mugumya challenged Christians to always love and pray for their priests, since this vocation isn’t an easy one hence congratulating Fr. Lawrence for accepting God’s call to serve him in such a capacity.
The Priest urged Christians to serve God well in their respective vocations, challenging fellows to be faithful to God and lead his people to the Kingdom of heaven

The function was attended by a number of dignitaries including the Rubabo County legislator Hon. Naboth Namanya, Hon. Midius Kaharata, the Rukungiri District Woman Member of Parliament was represented, the governance, peace and security expert Mujuni Lawrence Mpitsi Pac Singa, Ms Catherine Turyaheheebwa who represented the former Rubabo county legislator Hon. Kebirungi Mary Paula Turyahikayo, Andrew Nuwabeine among many others.

Mujuni Mpisi Lawrence Singa the former clerk to parliament who is now eyeing the Rubabo county Parliamentary seat congratulated Rev. Fr. Amanya Lawrence upon clinching the milestone, noting that very many people admire it but fail to achieve it.
Mpitsi urged parents to embrace education of their children, possibly in School fees friendly schools built on strong foundation of the church.
Mpitsi who is also the governance, Peace and security expert, condemned the current trend of aspiring Politicians promoting divisionism, trading defamation in the name of winning hearts of electorate, calling for ceasure of such propaganda that might lure the community into choosing incompetent leaders.
Speaking to our reporter at the sidelines of the function, the hopeful legislator received a huge applause from thousands of Christians who had converged at the function when he emphasized that his name must appear on the National Resistance Movement NRM ballot paper despite the rumors being engineered by his opponents on social media that he might be disqualified.
Mpitsi noted that all this propaganda is meant to divert his supporters and Rubabo County electorate from choosing a competent leader in him.
“What I want to assure you is that my name “Mujuni Lawrence Mpitsi” will be on the ballot paper. Those spreading malicious rumors on social media platforms are already defeated and now looking for sympathy vote. They will be ashamed once the commission nominates me and renders their allegations baseless” Mpitsi told our reporter.

On his part, Rev. Fr. Lawrence Amanya told the congregation that it has been a long journey for him to become a priest, noting that he has been in school for 34 years. Rev. Fr. Amanya thanked God for blessing him and enabling him to become a priest, pledging his commitment to serve him as per his calling.
