NEWS- Officials from Rubanda district on Thursday intervened in a land case where a section of locals were accusing the commissioner of parliament Hon Akampurira Mbabazi Prossy’s family and husband Apollo Mbabazi for having encroached over 15 metres in public land.
The Land in conflict neighbours the commissioners house who is also the Rubanda district woman MP located in Karegyere parish, Muko sub county Rubanda west constituency.
The Muko sub county chief Rebecca Kehooda accused some leaders of changing boundaries of the public land saying that what she inspected with other community leaders on 19th April last year is not what they found.
Kehooda added that together with the sub county executive officials and the land committee with the help of the area chairperson and other community members had inspected the public land boundaries.
Kehooda who doubles as secretary for Muko sub county land committee pinpointed the commissioner’s family for having encroached on the government land.
The Muko sub county chief was backed by Haruna Mutabazi 50 and Kamugisha Steven. The former Muko sub county chairperson accused the area Councillor for having connived together with the accused family to sell off the government land.
However this did not go well with the Muko sub county chairperson Patrick Abeneitwe who spat fire saying the public should play smart politics other than tarnishing fellows.
“Don’t tarnish Hon Prossy’s name, she has no land here. The land belongs to Jeffrey Baturine” the chairman said and cautioned those playing hate and cheap politics to leave Karegyere alone in peace.
It’s from this point that he fired back at the former Muko sub county chairman who left the sub county to Rubanda town council urging him to leave the sub county issues and concentrate on the town council.
The Rubanda district physical planner Timothy Niwebyona challenged the locals to embrace community meetings whenever they are called for.
He further questioned the forces behind this land case saying they surveyed the government land with the community and none was complaining but was shocked to see a complaint after three months.
Elly Mucunguzi principle assistant secretary at Rubanda district who represented the Rubanda District Chief Administration Officer posed a question to the locals if there was anyone complaining about land grabbing but to his surprise it was only the sub county chief Rebecca Kehooda.
Efforts to reach Jeffry Baturine, the father in law to Hon Prossy Mbabazi was futile as he couldn’t pick on all his known phones and wasn’t present in the community meeting.
