RUBIRIZI – Residents of Busonga Trading Center in Magambo, Rubirizi district have carried out an operation and caught 4 men suspected to be thieves who have been terrorizing the area.
The suspects who by press time were already in police custody were Serwada Kayemba, Musiimenta Aloysius, Kamwesiga Godrick and Turyamureeba Nantale. Another suspect Barigye Daudive (gang leader) is still on the run.
By the time of arrest, they were found with one stolen chicken, banana and 20kgs of maize flour. Angry residents later burnt down one of the houses of the thieves plus household items.
Residents say they decided to hunt for the thieves themselves after failing to get any assistance from their leaders who kept a deaf about the complaint of increased theft and crimes in the area.
One of the residents who never wanted this website to publish his names said they suffered alot in the hands of these suspected thieves who would spend their day smoking marijuana and start moving around at night assaulting people plus robbing their money and other items like phones and would even go to people’s gardens and steal their crops.
He says it’s recent when the suspects cut off the hand of one of the residents and took off with his Ugx 400,000= which he had got after selling off his pigs.
One of the Local leaders who talked to our reporter in Rubirizi said as leaders they don’t support theft but blamed some parents who always hide thieves since they are their sons plus people who always fail to expose suspected criminals arguing that this vice hinders government from helping them in time.
