During the launch of these events, Dr Sylvia Arinaitwe, the Deputy National Water and Sewerage Corporation boss incharge of finance and Corporate strategy noted that it’s aimed at identifying, shaping and developing talents from within the district and exposing them to the talent market.

According to her, football has currently become a lucrative source of income to not only a number of Ugandans but the entire world, stressing that most talents have however not gotten a chance to showcase what they can do.

“It’s unfortunate that we have many under-utilised talents within our communities. The reason for this tournament is hence to ensure that such talents are brought to the sight of great sportsmen who are capable of transitioning them to start earning from them” Dr. Sylvia remarked.

The winners will walk away with a number of accolades ranging from a trophy, medals among others all courtesy of the tournament sponsor Dr. Sylvia Arinaitwe aka Enkunzi ya Boona as nicknamed by Rukiga District residents.

Not only in talent identification and development, Dr Arinaitwe has been spearheading an initiative to uplift household incomes in Rukiga District through agriculture.

The campaign she launched in January 2024 was to provide agricultural tools to 35,000 households with the distribution of hoes and pangas to encourage active participation in farming activities as its always been President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni’s message to all Ugandans.

Dr. Sylvia’s other empowerment initiatives include providing planting seedlings, especially coffee seedlings, with the aim of supporting poverty eradication, as coffee is considered one of the most lucrative cash crop not only in Uganda but as well as on the global markets.
