Joshua Rukundo, the Chairman for Production Local Economic Development and Natural Resources in Kanungu District

NEWS- The Chairman Production Local Economic Development and Natural Resources Kanungu District Local Government Joshua Rukundo has vowed to use his career development to work for the transformation of Kanungu District and the country at large.

Rukundo, who is Nyanga Sub county District Male Councilor and an aspirant for Kinkizi West Parliamentary Seat, made the remarks after graduating with A Master of Art Degree in Diplomacy and Global Studies at Nkumba University and now aspires to use his experience in social Economic transformation to change the economic face of Kanungu District.

Rukundo graduated from Nkumba University during the 26th graduation ceremony at the main campus in Entebbe under the theme” 30 years of transforming dreams into knowledge and skills.

Rukundo attended Bishop’s Primary School, before proceeding to Kinkiizi High School for Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) and Excel Millennium High School Kyengera for Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) and Uganda Christian University where he acquired a Degree in Economics and Management.

After graduation, Rukundo established the Kigezi Coffee Development Academy (KCDA) which has promoted Quality coffee growing and marketing for over 10 years by working and establishing coffee farmer cooperative groups.

When he was elected the Chairman of Production Local Economic Development and Natural Resources in Kanungu District Local Government, Rukundo has vigorously promoted Diary farming, Apiary, Coffee and Cocoa farming, fish farming and he recently presented a petition for Government to extend power to Mpungu Tea Factory and also implored the Government to help Greater Kayonza farmers with alternative economic activities since tea which was their source of livelihoods has dwindled to drop in prices.

As the Chairman of Production Local Economic Development and Natural Resources in in Kanungu District Council, Rukundo has ably chaired and steered many meetings of Parish Development Model (PDM) to ensure its success and the district has now emerged as one of the best implementers of the program across the Country.

This year’s graduation had over 1600 graduands where twelve will receive Doctor of Philosophy (PhDs) while the rest walked home with bachelors, master’s degree, postgraduate diplomas and certificates.

The graduands will be graduating from the School of Social Sciences, Business Administration, Industrial Art and Design, Law, Computing and Informatics, Education and School of Sciences.

The Guest of Honor Hon Nyombi who is the Chief Executive Officer of Uganda Communications Commission, Nyombi Tembo implore graduands to use internet very well to advance their careers since internet is there forever and does not forget to provide solutions to the problems affecting societies through ICT innovations.

The ceremony was also attended by the Nkumba University by the Chancellor Rotarian Emmanuel Katongole, the Vice Chancellor Prof Jude Lubega, the Academic Registrar Dr. Frank Pio Kiyingi, the University staff and prominent figures from the Ministry of Education and Sports.

Excited graduands said that they were grateful for the opportunities offered at Nkumba University and among this year’s outstanding graduands was Ms Biragi Cikwanine Letitia the former Miss Nkumba University who said that being an international student from a French speaking country, it was not easy to cope up but thanked her lecturers because the journey seemed much easier than she anticipated.

Fiona Atim, PhD graduand says “It has been a three year vigorous journey filled with intricate complexities which called for perseverance and resilience.

According to Ssendawula Akram, a student graduating student in Business Administration, It wasn’t just a walk over getting here, but finally his hard work is finally going to pay off and added that Nkumba University has equipped him with the knowledge and skills in his field and believes he is ready to create a difference.
