NEWS- The Traffic Police in Rukungiri District have registered a single serious turned fatal accident that happened yesterday in Rukondo village in Rukungiri Municipality along Rukungiri – Kihihi road.
Kigezi Region Police Spokesman Elly Maate has confirmed the accident and said that it involved motorcycle registration number UER 138G ridden by 40 year old Arinaitwe Spencer a boda boda operator and a resident of Nyabubare village in Bwambara Sub-county in Rukungiri District who died.
Maate identified other victims involved in the accident who were injured as 70 year old Nkurye philimon a resident of Nyabubare village and 36 year old Hakiri Brian a resident of Rwemisindi village both in Bwambara Sub-county in Rukungiri District who were passengers on the motorcycle.
Maate told journalists today that it’s alleged that, the rider now the deceased was carrying two passengers on the motorcycle from a burial in Nyarushanje Sub-county and when they reached at Rukondo along Rukungiri – Kihihi road, he failed to negotiate a corner, lost control and went off-road and fell down on the opposite side of the road.
Maate explained that the scene of accident was visited by traffic police officers led by Corpal Natima, the victims were rushed to Nyakibale hospital for medication where the rider had been rushed by the first respondents but he was pronounced dead on arrival and the body was later on taken to Rwakabengo Health Center III Mortuary for postmortem examination.
The Motorcycle is currently parked at Rukungiri Central Police Station pending IoV inspection, but preliminary findings indicate that the accident was caused by reckless riding and overspending by the rider.
