NEWS- The Police in Rukungiri District are investigating circumstances surrounding the death of a 2 years old girl identified as Rachel Owembabazi, who was allegedly cut to death by her biological father Musinguzi Willy, a porter at a construction site and resident of Nyamayenje A” cell in Ndorero Ward in Southern division of Rukungiri Municipality.

Kigezi Regional Police Spokesman Elly Maate has confirmed the death of the innocent young girl and told journalists that the incident occurred yesterday evening in the same village.

It’s alleged that during the month of January 2024 Musinguzi separated with his wife Namutebi Zainabu Elizabeth who left their two children namely Ainomugisha Babra aged 6 years and Owembabazi Racheal aged  2 years with their father and the two children have been under the care of their grandparents Koshaba Mauda and Turyahabwe John.

It is reported that while the deceased was with his sister and the grandparents inside their house sorting ground nuts, Musinguzi came in and picked the deceased and took her to his home and Ainomugisha remained standing on the doorway of her grandparent’s home watching them.

Maate explained that moments later, Musinguzi returned back with a panga while holding the deceased and upon reaching the compound, he put the child down while facing downwards and cut her neck and he Owomugisha got shocked and ran back into the house which attracted the grandfather who witnessed the murder of his granddaughter. 

He then alerted his wife Koshaba who made an alarm to the community as the husband reported the matter to the Police and the alarm attracted other local residents including Byomuhangi Medard the area LC 1 chairperson who arrested Musinguzi from his house and handed him over to Police.

Maate said that the scene of crime was visited, processed and documented and statements recorded from witnesses, the exhibit of apanga was recovered and the body conveyed to Rwakabengo Health Centre III Mortuary pending postmortem examination as investigations continue.

Meanwhile the Police in Kisoro District have arrested two suspects for questioning, on the alleged murder of a 65 year old woman identified as Angelica Kamaganzo a peasant and a resident of Kigeyo village in Kigeyo Ward in Nyanamo Town Council.

Police Spokesman Elly Maate said that it is alleged that on 16th February 2025 evening, the deceased was informed that his step son Kwiringira Auleriano had quarreled with Twimukye Grace and Kwiringira advised her to report the matter to Police, however, before she could report, Kwiringira heard the deceased making an alarm that that she was being killed and he informed other neighbors on what had happened and immediately the Police was informed.

The scene of crime was visited by Kisoro District Police Commander, the Scene of Crime Officer and a team of detectives and armed uniformed personnel and statements were recorded from the relevant witnesses and the body was conveyed to Kisoro hospital pending postmortem examination and two suspects have been arrested to assist the Police in investigations.
