NEWS- As days and nights turn, Journalists in Rukungiri district under their umbrella Rukungiri District Media Practitioners Association (RDMPA) are working tirelessly to have their association officially launched.
According to MR. Isaac Bernard Tushabe, the association chairperson the function to officially launch the association will be held on Saturday, 4th May, 2024 at the New Palm Royale Hotel grounds in Southern Division, Rukungiri municipality.
Tushabe revealed to our news desk that the function will be honoured by different dignitaries led by Mr. Morrison Rwakakamba who is the chairperson Uganda Investments Authority as the chief guest.
Other dignitaries to grace the function include area Honourable Members of Parliament, district political and technical officials, famous business men and women from both within and outside the district, politicians, and religious leaders among many others.
Mr. Micah Kamusiime, the association general secretary noted that on Friday 3rd May, 2024 the association members will join other journalists in the world to commemorate the World Press freedom day and that as the association they will visit and render help to pregnant mothers and newly born babies with different necessities at Kebisoni Health Centre 4 and this activity will be led by the Rukungiri district Deputy RDC Mr. Wilberforce Ahimbisibwe Ongwom.
This year’s 2024 World Press freedom day will be commemorated under the theme “the importance of journalism and freedom of expression in the context of the current global environmental crisis”.
On Saturday, 4th May 2024 the day will commence with cleaning the town as a corporate social responsibility and will be led by the Rukungiri senior RDC Mr. Steven Nsubuga Bewayo.
And then after the association members and the invited guests led by the chief guest (Mr. Morrison Rwakakamba) will plant a memorable tree in Rukungiri town as a sign of remembrance and conserving the environment following the day’s theme before joining the New Palm Royale Hotel grounds for the official launch.
It should be noted that Rukungiri District Media Practitioners Association houses all Media Practitioners from electronic media (radios and television) and print media (newspapers) not forgetting online publications within the district.
