NEWS- The Police in Rukungiri District are investigating circumstances surrounding the death of a 42 year old woman identified Annet Arinaitwe a residents of Kabasoni village Nyakitabire Parish in Ruhinda Sub-county.
Kigezi Regional Police Spokesman ASP Elly Maate says, the deceased is alleged to have been killed by her husband Tumuramye Vanansio who hails from the same village.
It’s alleged that Tumuramye and Arinaitwe left Omurusandasi Trading Center where they had a social evening and when they reached home and had supper, Arinaitwe told Tumuramye that they should go back to the Trading Center for more drinking, which he refused and they slept.
Preliminary information at the Police indicate that at midnight, Tumuramye woke up, but didn’t find Arinaitwe on the bed, and he started tracing for her around their home premises and upon failing to find her, he walked towards Omurusandasi Trading Center.
That upon reaching at the junction to their home along Katookye Kyomera road, he met Arinaitwe coming back.
When Tumuramye asked where she was coming from, they started to fight and she overpowered him, that’s when he had to pick a stone and hit her on the head which made her unconscious.
Tumuramye is reported to have called for a Boda Boda rider who transported her to Burombe Heath Centre III where she was declared dead on arrival. The man abandoned the body of the body along Ruhinda – Rukungiri road and took off.
Maate explained that the Police at Ruhinda were informed and the scene of crime was visited, documented and statements recorded from witnesses and the and Tumuramye who is a prime suspect was arrested, body conveyed to Rwakabengo Health Center III Mortuary for postmortem examination as investigations continue.
