NEWS– The police in Rukungiri are hunting for a suspect who allegedly murdered a 10-year-old Charity Nazifa, a pupil at Centenary Primary school and resident of Nyakabare cell/ parish in Bwambara sub county of Rukungiri district.
It’s alleged that on 1st November 2023 at around 6Pm, the deceased and her brother Isma Turyasingura went to fetch water at the well which is approximately 200M from their home.
On their way, they passed an unknown man, and while fetching water, the unknown man came to the well (Eiziiba) and abducted Nazifa Charity. Her brother had to run back home while making an alarm calling the mother.
ASP Elly Maate, the Kigezi Regional Police spokesman, told this reporter that the mother together with other women ran and found her daughter missing. Other people joined them and searched in the bush around the well where the body of the deceased was discovered lying in the well water.
The Police mouthpiece adds that Police was alerted by the area chairperson Local council one George Bambabwire, a case of murder was registered at Rukungiri Police station, crime scene visited, body retrieved and conveyed to Rwakabengo health center III mortuary for postmortem examination.
Maate adds that inquiries are at hand to establish the suspect and the motive for which it was done.
In a related development, the territorial police of Rukungiri have detained a 40-year-old man for the alleged murder of a 39-year-old nephew.
The suspect is one Apollo Niwenyesiga Kabududu a resident of Nyakabare cell, Central Ward, Kebisoni Town Council in Rukungiri district, who allegedly hit with a hoe to death Darius Turyamwijuka a resident of the same area according to ASP Elly Maate, the Kigezi Regional Police spokesperson.
It’s alleged that on 31st October 2023 at around 7Pm at Nyakabare cell, the deceased went back home drunk and found his uncle Apollo Niwenyesiga Kabududu, with whom they developed a quarrel and the deceased hit his uncle with a stick twice.
Maate told the press that out of annoyance, the uncle also picked a hoe and hit him several times on the head and back till his death.
This was in the presence of Ainemani Franklin who started crying which attracted Kabyesiza Edson, who reached at the scene and found the body of Darius in a pool of blood. He informed the area Chairperson Katamba Richard who reported the matter at Kebisoni Police Station.
Crime scene was visited, exhibit of the hoe recovered, suspect was arrested and now detained at CPS Rukungiri as the body was conveyed to Rwakabengo Health Center III mortuary for postmortem examination.
