NEWS- The Rukungiri Muslim leaders led by the district Khadi Sheik Abdul Malik Byaruhanga Kayole and the district Muslim chairperson Hajji Adbulah Bananuka last week held a special meeting with the minister of security Hon Maj Gen Jim Muhwezi to discuss issues concerning development.

The meeting took place at Rukungiri Inn in Eastern division Rukungiri Municipality which was also attended by Muslim county sheiks among other Muslim leaders.

He says they were aimed at telling him to lobby for them a seed school Lobby for them a seed secondary school since they have enough land as Muslims in Rukungiri like at Ruruku and Bikurungu mosque where each mosque has over 8 acres of land.

Kayole says as Muslims they need to have a seed school and they are ready to support it once granted as a foundation body assuring him of their readiness to offer land to the government for this cause in either in Bikurungu or Rukuku in Western Division, Rukungiri municipality.

They requested the Minister to be a guest of honour in October as they plan to launch the Islamic banking system in Rukungiri as they officially open Rujumbura twale Swahab Sacco to help Muslims access affordable loans and other financial services which goes hand in hand with Islamic faith.

Maj. Gen Jim Muhwezi promised to support them by buying shares in their Sacco after officially opening it since it’s aimed at development of Muslims in Rukungiri district.

The district Kadhi further said that as the team, they discussed on the Kadhi run scheduled for 8th January 2025 as he celebrates 2 years in service as the Rukungiri Muslim district Kadhi where they asked Minister Jim Muhwezi to link them with the prime Minister of Uganda Rt Hon Robinah Nabajja to be their guest of honour.

They asserted that all the funds set to be collected on that day will be used to construct the office of the Rukungiri Muslim district Khadi hence appealing to all Muslims, political leaders, and the business community to support them in ensuring its success.

The Minister of security Hon Maj Gen Jim Muhwezi agreed to help them in connecting with the prime Minister to grace their Kadhi run. On the issue of lobbying a seed school for them, the Minister promised to take their request to the Ministry of education and Sports, follow it up to see whether it can be positively considered.

The team asked the Minister to extend their appreciation to the President for fighting corruption that is on the rampage in Uganda where some government officials have been arrested stressing that this will send a strong signals to other officials who were planning on engagement in corruption.
