NEWS- The territorial police in Rukungiri District are actively investigating circumstances under which a 48 years old Katsigazi Erias a shopkeeper and resident of Omukacundezi village Kisizi parish Nyarushanje sub county Rukungiri district, was allegedly murdered.

ASP Elly Maate the Kiggezi Region Police Spokesman told the press that on the 1st January 2025, Katsigazi Erias was at his shop which doubles as their home from where they had supper together with the family at around 21:30 hours.

Maate adds that he later closed the shop and they all went inside the house to sleep.

The Police mouthpiece adds that at around 23:00 hours, the deceased’s wife Tumuhereze Pamela started calling the children seeking for help, and one of the children called Tukesiga Recub rushed to see what was happening.

Its said that Tukesiga found her mother lying facing downwards near the inner doorway with her hands loosely tied with a rope from behind and her face covered with her cloth commonly called “ekitengye”.

That, when he reached her mother, she told him to first check on his father whether he was still alive. Unfortunately Tukesiga found him in the bedroom lying in a pool of blood.

He then called some neighbors who included Nuwagaba Adella alias Nalongo who came and untied their mother.

However, upon conducting a thorough check of the crime scene, there were no signs of forced entry or breaking seen. This discrepancy, therefore, raised some concerns about what really happened. The narration from the victim’s wife that four individuals attacked them while they were inside their house couldn’t be believed.

The police at Rubabo police station were alerted, scene of crime examined and documented, the body was conveyed to Rwakabengo Health Centre III mortuary for postmortem examination and the wife of the deceased was arrested to assist police in investigations.
