NEWS- The Police in Rukungiri district are currently holding a 60-year-old man for allegedly assaulting his 46-year-old wife, leading to her death.
The deceased has been identified as Maria Busingye, a resident of Nyakasa village, Ibanda Parish, Nyarushanje Sub County.
ASP Elly Maate, the Kigezi region police spokesperson, told journalists that on 17th March 2024, at around 8pm, the suspect got into a misunderstanding with his wife, which resulted in a fight that attracted Kyarimpa Diana (a neighbor) to come to her rescue.
Apparently, the deceased left with Kyarimpa Diana to her home, where she spent a night without receiving any treatment. This continued until the 19th March 2024 when the relatives, upon receiving the information, took her to Rubabo Medical Centre Clinic, where she succumbed to her injuries.
Maate confirmed to our reporter that the Police were notified by the chairman of the local council three in Nyarushanje, Michael Musime. A case was registered at Rubabo Police Station vide SD REF: 11/19/03/2024.
The crime scene was visited, examined, and documented and the suspect was arrested, currently in custody at Rukungiri CPS, and the deceased’s body was taken to Rwakabengo HC III mortuary for a postmortem examination.
ASP Maate further confided that inquiries into the matter are ongoing and the suspect, Richard Rukuunya alias Sanyu, is behind bars to answer the charges.
