NEWS– The Bishop of West Ruwenzori Diocese, Rt Rev Barnabas Tibaijuka has today received President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni’s donation of a car to assist him in his pastoral duties which was handed over by Vice President Major Jessica Alupo at her office in Kampala.
The vehicle was a fulfilment of a pledge made by the President on Bishop Tibaijuka’s consecration in Bundibugyo District on Sunday 27th August 2023 where he was represented by the Minister of Tourism Wildlife and Antiquities Hon Tom Butime.
During the function to hand over the car, the Vice President commended the Bishop for the Diocese’s idea of acquiring over 20 acres of land to undetake commercial agriculture and also commended him for refurbishing the main hospital in the district.
Speaking during the brief ceremony, Bishop Tibaijuka whose Diocese is the newest in the Province, said the vehicle will be used to enhance God’s work in the Diocese and the Province at large and pledged to partner with the government to transform livelihoods.
He congratulated the National Resistance Movement Government and Parliament for passing the Anti-homosexuality Bill that has since been passed into law, saying that as true Africans and Christians, they have to preserve our traditions and the Bibilical truth which is the foundation of faith.
On food security which has been a rallying call from the President over the years, Bishop Tibeijuka reiterated his pledge to encourage christians to get involved in commercial agriculture to have what to eat and what to sell.
He said that he is committed to continue the Church’s partnership with the Government in changing people’s lives through mindset change, commercial Agriculture, upholding security and unity in the region.
The meeting was attended by Ministers of state, Hon David Bahati for Industry, Hon Ntabazi Harriet for Trade and Cooperatives and Hon Jane Alisemera from the National Resistance Movement (NRM) Secretariat.
