KABALE- Rwagana Cell in Southern Division, Kabale Municipality, emerged victorious in the Karubanda Ward Mega Sports Tournament, winning 2-0 in a penalty shootout.
The one-day tournament, organized by Wakiso Deputy RDC Sheikh Kasim Kamugisha, brought together all 10 villages that make up Karubanda Ward in Southern Division, Kabale Municipality. The event was held at St. Paul’s Seminary Playground.
Sheikh Kasim Kamugisha, Wakiso District Deputy Resident District Commissioner and Kabale Municipality National Resistance Movement (NRM) flag bearer, was the chief guest. He highlighted the challenges faced by sportsmen and women in the past, noting that there were few people willing to support them.
Kamugisha urged players to avoid bad behaviors that could harm their football careers and emphasized the importance of training to stay fit and achieve greater heights.
Kamugisha announced plans to host a sports gala on January 26, 2025, to commemorate Uganda’s Liberation Day. The event aims to identify and promote new talent.
Kabale District Deputy Speaker and Southern Division LCV Councilor Hon. Ronald Eyan Mugisha also spoke at the event. He reminded the audience that success results from commitment, hard work, and focus. Mugisha added that Uganda has benefited financially from its successful sports personalities, who have excelled locally and internationally.
The tournament featured all villages in Karubanda Ward. Rwagana won the championship by defeating Kahama-Runyanjoka 2-0 in a penalty shootout. The winners received a bull, a trophy, medals, and UGX 500,000.
The runners-up, Kahama-Runyanjoka, received a goat and medals. All semi-finalist teams received football jerseys and footballs.
