Kigezi Regional Police Spokesman Elly Maate

NEWS- A Rwandan passenger has this week died aboard Horizon bus that was enroute to Kisoro district from Kampala.

The case according to ASP Elly Maate was reported by Kyokwijuka Wickliffe, a male Horizon bus conductor, resident of Nankuwade cell, Bulenga ward wakiso district that Tuyizere James 21, Rwandan by Nationality had died.

It’s stated that on the 28th January 2024, the deceased boarded a Horizon bus registration number UAM 218H from Kampala to Kisoro and the bus set off at around 1am on the 29th January 2024.

When the bus approached Mbarara, Tuyizere started to vomit severely and when the bus reached Itojo they wanted to take him to the hospital but other passengers on board refused as they complained about time.

Maate told the press that when they proceeded and reached Kabaraga and the bus stopped for the passengers to ease themselves, it’s when the bus conductor got to know that Tuyizere James had collapsed and died.

Police was informed and the Homicide team from Kabale CPS led by the District CID officer Kabale D/SP Mukama Hakim and team visited crime scene, relevant statements obtained and body was taken to Kabale regional referral hospital mortuary for postmortem examination as inquiries are initiated.

In other news, the territorial police in Rukungiri are investigating circumstances surrounding the death of a 56 year old Beatrice Kenyonyozi, a resident of Nyakatunguru cell, Bugongi Parish Kanungu district.

It’s alleged that, in the month of October 2023, the deceased went to Kafunjo cell and started cohabiting with Matsiko Richard according to Kigezi Regional Police spokesman ASP Elly Maate.

He adds that in the month of January 2024, Kenyonyozi went to Muhumuza Emmanuel in company of Matsiko Richard and rented a room in his house at Kafunjo Trading Centre.

It’s said that she started staying in her rented room where Matsiko Richard would keep visiting her until on 6th January 2024 at around 2Pm when she handed over the keys to the landlord and went away to an unknown place.

Maate adds that unfortunately, on 28th January 2024 at around 6am, hunters discovered her body in the sorghum garden; they informed the area chairperson Kafunjo Denis Kyohangyirwe, who reported the case to Police Buyanja post.

The Police PRO adds that the crime scene was visited, examined and documented by D/soco and homicide detectives, statements recorded from witnesses and body was conveyed to Rwakabengo HC III for postmortem examination as inquiries are at hand.
