NEWS– The Police in Rukungiri District are investigating circumstances surrounding the death of two people who allegedly fought and one was boxed to death while the other was lynched by mob.
Kigezi Regional Police Spokesman ASP Elly Maate identified the deceased persons as Julius Beinomugisha Kato and Nelson Niwatuha Ndyagabondo who were both were casual labourers and residents of Muyanje village in Bwambara Sub county, Rukungiri District.
Maate said that the incident took place in Omukayembe Trading Center where Niwatuha had a contract to dig a garden for Nsheija and contacted Beinomugisha to help him do it so that they could finish the work very fast while taking alcohol.
Its reported that shortly after finishing work, they continued drinking, and in the evening, Bainomugisha demanded payment for the work done. Niwatuha instead answered that his pay was the money they had been drinking and they started fighting. It’s at this point that Bainomugisha was punched, fell down and died instantly.
The local residents out of annoyance, ganged up on Niwatuha Nelson in a course of revenge, but was rescued and rushed to Bwambara Health Centre III, where he succumbed to injuries inflicted by the mob.
The Police was informed, crime scene was visited, examined, and documented, statements were recorded, postmortem examinations were conducted on both bodies and handed over to the relatives for burial.
Maate said that the case of double murder has been registered at Rukungiri Central Police Station under reference number CRB 566/2024 to help in investigations and those who were involved in the mob action will be brought to book.
