NEWS- The Police in Rukungiri district are investigating circumstances that led to a serious single accident that happened on Tuesday morning, January 6th 2024 along the Rukungiri-Ntungamo road in Rukungiri district.
According to SSP Musa Tibakirana the Rukungiri District Police Commander, the accident involving a Kanungu bound Highway bus registration number UBE 379Q occurred at around 5:30am at Rwabigangura village Kebisoni Town Council leaving a number of passengers nursing injuries.
SSP Tibakirana identified those injured in this accident as 19 year old Akampa Timothy, male resident of Kanungu, 38 year old Tusingwire Sarah female resident of Butogota Kanungu, Lule Wilberforce, male adult (Inspector for the bus company) resident of Kawala Old Kampala, Mutabarura Geoffrey male adult resident of Kyabugimbi Bushenyi (Conductor of the bus) and one unknown male juvenile who sustained serious injuries and taken to yet unknown facility.
Facts gathered from the scene indicate that the driver of the bus left Kampala for Kanungu with passengers and upon reaching Rwabigangura village in Kebisoni Town Council; it burst a tyre and veered off the road.
After the accident, according to SSP Tibakirana, the driver disappeared and the injured were taken to various clinics for treatment.
Police visited the crime scene and documented it, recorded relevant statements from witnesses, cleared the scene and the motor vehicle towed and parked pending IOV inspection.
Police registered a single serious accident case at Rukungiri Central Police Station under reference number TAR 07/2024 as investigations continue.
