KAMPALA- A Fifteen year-old Student of City Side School in Kyebando has been confirmed to have perished in the devastating fire that swept through Kyamuka-Kisenyi- Kamwokya, destroying properties worth millions and left multiple individuals with burn injuries.
This is the second fire within two years, ravaging the densely populated area. The previous incident in July last year resulted in two fatalities, caused by electrical sparks from high-voltage power lines.
According to the residents, the fire which started at around 1:00 am in a makeshift man who was fighting with the wife, accidentally a mosquito net was torched, before it spread to the entire house which was full of plastic bottles and caught other close wooden structures.
Robert Abigaba, the general secretary of the area, told this publication that by the time the fire brigade reached the scene the fire had grown wild, and little could be done.

Other affected residents said they have lost all properties in the fire, and left homeless.

But the Kampala Metropolitan Deputy Police Spokesperson, Luke Owoyesigyire has confirmed that there was a fatality, of a 15-year-old student who was caught inside sleeping.
“The victim, identified as Kiiza Melisa Catherine, a 15-year-old student at City Side School in Kyebando, and daughter of Ronald Bashisha Ronald, was found dead. Her body has been transferred to the City Mortuary, Mulago, for a post-mortem examination.” Owoyesigyire said.
In 2021, two people died and several others were injured when a fire gutted several houses in the same areas. The fire was caused by electric sparks from one high power voltage line.
According to the 2023 crime report from the Police Fire and Rescue Directorate, Uganda experienced 1,144 fire incidents, with 233 occurring in residential buildings.
