NEWS- The Police in Sheema District are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a 63-year-old businessman, believed to have been poisoned amid a land dispute.

The incident occurred on July 14, 2024, around 2:30 PM at Rushoroza Cell, Kagango Division, Sheema Municipality, Sheema District. Marcial Tumusiime, the spokesperson for Greater Bushenyi Police, confirmed the incident and identified the deceased as Adriano Baale, a resident of Bunyagongo Cell, Kagango Division, Sheema Municipality.

It is alleged that on July 14, 2024, Baale accompanied his wife to Rwabutura Catholic Church for prayers. Upon returning to Kabwohe town, he inspected his rental buildings and then proceeded to Shell Kabwohe to refuel his car.

Instead of driving home, witnesses reported seeing him driving at high speed towards Ngoma. Along the way, his car’s engine suddenly stopped after hitting a hump. Baale abandoned the vehicle with its ignition key and continued on foot to an unknown destination.

On July 15, 2024, his body was discovered in a pond on Siraji’s farm in Rushoroza Cell. Family members indicated that Baale had a long-standing land dispute pending in the court of Kagango, Sheema District, suggesting a possible motive for his death.

Tumusiime mentioned that Baale’s body emitted a suspected pesticide odor, and it was transported to Kabwohe Health Center IV for a postmortem examination. Investigations into the matter are ongoing.

Meantime, the Police in Mitooma District have detained three individuals on charges of arson following an incident that occurred on July 13, 2024, at approximately 3:00 AM in Kashenshero Central Cell, Ward One, Kashenshero Town Council.

Marcial Tumusiime, the spokesperson for Greater Bushenyi Police, confirmed the incident and identified the suspects as Spencer Tayebwa, 35, a resident of Muronzi I village, Nyabubare Parish, Bwambala sub-county in Rukungiri District; James Mugisha, 14, a pupil of Omuburama Primary School, Omuburama Village, Bikurungu Parish, Bikurungu sub-county in Rukungiri District; and Ananias Nuwamanya, 20, a resident of Bikurungu Cell, Bikurungu Parish, Bikurungu Sub-county in Rukungiri District.

According to reports, on July 13, 2024, Alex Ahimbisibwe received a call from Kamasanyu, the manager of Smiles View Bar and Lodges, informing him that his vehicle, registered as UBG 170V Tipper Elf, was on fire. Ahimbisibwe promptly rushed to the scene and found individuals attempting to extinguish the fire. At the scene, he identified Tayebwa and two others leaving the area, prompting him to alert the police. Law enforcement officers swiftly tracked down and apprehended the suspects at the lodge of Kabarangira.

Tumusiime added that police investigations have revealed that another vehicle belonging to the complainant, registered as UAN 335X Tipper white in color, was partially burnt last month on June 11, 2024. All three suspects arrested hail from Rukungiri District. They are currently held at Mitooma Central Police Station as inquiries into the incident continue.
