SHEEMA- Authorities from the central government and Sheema District local government have launched the construction of a new district headquarters building.
The Ugx 6.8bn two storied building facility will house 100 offices for the District civil servants, District Council hall, Canteen as well as other different offices and will take 3 years to be completed.
While launching the project on Tuesday December 12th 2023, Tugabirwe Emmanuel, the acting commissioner for districts administration in the Ministry of local government who represented the Minister of local government Raphael Magyezi expressed concerns about the increased acting positions of heads of department in the district citing political interests amongst the district service commission and other district heads.
“Am aware that the District Education Officer has been acting for close to 6 years yet she is qualified, why don’t you promote her?, I want to tell you that if you are a leader and you are denying someone a chance to be prompted, then you are sabotaging service delivery in the district ” Said Tugabirwe.
Hon Rosemary Nyakikongoro, the Sheema District Woman Member of Parliament, tasked the district officials to use the money that has been given to them for its intended use as this will help them to lobby for more funds.
“We as members of Parliament, we are committed to supporting the district in terms of lobbying and we are ready to follow up on every single coin to be allocated in the district after all we are all on the budget committee” Nyakikongoro.
Meanwhile, John Patrick Niweabigaba, the Sheema district Chief Administrative Officer, assured the leaders that they will use the funds appropriately and do quality work.
