Members engaging in tree planting

NEWS– Rotary club of kabale in partnership with south western Regional Development Forum on Wednesday 22 May 2024 launched tree planting in greater Kigezi and Ankole Districts in a move conserve the environment.

Speaking to our reporter at Mwisi Primary in Mwisi Parish Kitumba sub county where they planted 370 trees some of which are Fruits, Shade and Timber production species, the vice chairperson of South western Regional Development Forum Mr. Mesearch Katusiimeh said that they have launched a tree planting drive with rotary clubs within Greater Kigezi and Ankole Districts starting with the Rotary club of Kabale.

Katusiimeh added that with the help of the GEP President Ninsiima Evelyn Kikafunda, the initial trees they planted and other trees, they will be able to plant trees in greater Kigezi and Ankole Districts.

He said that most of the environmental challenges they are facing have come as a result of cutting trees. He challenged the public to first think of planting more trees before cutting down a tree if they are to preserve the Environment for the next 5-10 years to come.

Karuma Charles, the Member of the Rotary club of kabale who is also Aspiring for the Chairmanship said that the planted trees are from the Rotary club of Kabale and south western Regional Development Forum.

Karuma challenged the public to plant more trees as possible for the betterment of the Environment.

Canon Hilary Byoruganda who is the Board Member of south western Regional Development Forum said that conserving the environment is part of south western Regional Development Forum Focus.

Byoruganda added that the south western Regional Development Forum is a brain child of Local Governments saying that all LC5 chairpersons, District CAOs, Speakers and Planners within Greater Kigezi and Ankole Districts are Members of south western Regional Development Forum.

He added that they focus on Agro Industrialization, Tourism, Climate, Mineral Developments, Water Management among others.
