RUKIGA- The Traffic Police in Rukiga District registered a serious road accident which left one person seriously injured and properties damaged.
Kigezi Region Police Spokesman Elly Maate has confirmed the accident that took place at Rwabahazi cell along Ntungamo – Kabale highway in Rukiga District.
Maate explained that the accident involved motor vehicle registration number RAG 876S/RL 6264 Mercedes Benz rammed into a permanent house, crashed 3 Kiosks and injured one of the occupants therein and Celtec mobile network wooden poles.
Maate identified the victim in the accident as 29 year old Samuel, a resident of Rwabahazi cell in Muhanga Town Council.
The driver of the vehicle is Yves Rutagambwa aged 27yrs old Rwandan driver of Kibagaba cell in Kasaba Akarere (Sub County) of Gasabo District in Kigali City Rwanda.
Maate explained that the motor vehicle was from Ntungamo direction heading to Kigali Rwanda along Ntungamo – Kabale highway and when it reached Rwabahazi sharp corner, the driver lost control and went off road, rammed into a permanent house, network poles, 3 wooden kiosks and injuring one of the occupants in the kiosk.
The scene of the crash was visited by Rukiga District Traffic Officer Rubango John Bosco and the team, the motor vehicle was towed and parked at Rukiga Central Police Station yard pending IOV inspection and the victim was taken to Rotom Health center for treatment.
Maate said that the primary cause of the accident was reckless driving with an element of over speeding in a sharp corner and investigations are ongoing.
