KAMPALA- Former National Lotteries and Gaming Regulatory Board Uganda (NLGRB) CEO, Edgar Agaba has been implicated in another scandal, accused of defaulting Ugx20 million.

Agaba, who is the Director Spice Media (taking Spice FM-Hoima), partner at Agaba Muhairwe Advocates and a pillar in Bunyoro Kitara Kingdom was in 2019 charged and later convicted by the Anti-Corruption Court Kampala in a mega corruption scandal.  He conned with other members of a syndicate at Lotteries and Gaming Regulatory Board to embezzle over Ugx700 million meant for sensitization and other activities to improve the betting sector in Uganda.

DEFAULTING UGX20 MILLION

Agaba has now been accused by some Tech and Communication Experts for defaulting Ugx20 million. He was supposed to pay this money as part of the process to mitigate cyber and digital threats against him.

“Damage control is very expensive, and this is someone we worked for without suspicion. He knows that he is supposed to pay this money. He used agents to fool us. We won’t tolerate it,” one of the sources.

Edgar Gerald Agaba was later banned from holding any public office for 10 years over corruption. He was arrested and charged with John Patrick Kazoora, the then Manager in Charge of Finance Administration.

Prosecution indicated that Agaba, Kazoora and others between October 17th, 2018 and February 14th, 2019 at their offices in Kampala stole over 710 million shillings.

FINED UGX800,000 FOR STEALING OVER 700 MILLION

On Friday, December 2, 2022, Lady Justice Margret Tibulya agreed with the office of the DPP that indeed Agaba stole government money and also caused financial loss to the government.

The judge however fined Agaba Ugx100,000 for each of the eight counts of embezzlement, abuse of office and causing financial loss that he was convicted of.
