Students hurriedly leaving the School gates

NEWS- The school management of St Mary’s College Rushoroza has suspended the entire Senior Five boys after they allegedly instigated a violent strike at the school.

The school Headteacher Mubangizi Tarasis the S.5 boys decided to make a strike by breaking window glasses for administration block and some classes, claiming that they wanted their fellow boys who were suspended recalled back to school.

Kigezi Regional Police Spokesman Elly Maate said that the strike followed the assaulting of a Senior One student identified as Niwahabyoona Special by a group of form five boys students on allegation that he stole Ugx 40,000.

It is reported that the form five students who were identified as Byamugisha Nicholas, Aine Ronie, Namara Meledizikia, Nshabamukama Samuel, Atukunda Paddy, Kansiime Assan and Tugineyo Brave were subsequently suspended from the school.

It’s reported that the assaulted student Niwahabyoona was seriously injured on the head, buttocks and back and had swollen with bruises all over the body due to assault and the school management resolved to suspend the said students and immediately took the victim to Rushoroza Health Centre where he is still admitted.

Maate explained that following the strike Kabale Police Station Officer in charge Akanyijuka Andrew and the OC CID Hakim Mukama immediately intervened by dispersing the striking students and normalised the situation and advised that all the S.5 students be suspended until the school management decides their fate.

Maate said that some of the leaders  of strike who include Abasa Andrew, Agaba Willy, Ahurira Casbert, Munezero Fredrick, Amanya Nickson, Irakiza Timothy and Mucunguzi Anthony have been arrested for further investigations and the case of malicious damage of property was registered at Kabale Central Police Station under reference number CRB 908/2023 to help in investigations.

Meanwhile the Police in Kabale District have registered a fatal accident that occurred at Kyanamira Trading Center in Kyanamira Subcounty, along Kabale – Mbarara highway.

According to Elly Maate the accident involved a Kenyan registered Trailer number KDM 588E /ZE3608 and the dead was identified as Hussein Ramadhan, a Kenyan national.

Maate said that it is reported that the trailer which was being driven by one Ramadhan Hussein was from Kenya heading to Rwanda carrying fertilizers and when it reached Kyanamira Trading Centre, the driver failed to negotiate the corner and the vehicle overturned killing him on spot.

The scene of the accident was visited by Kabale Traffic OC Joseph Mucunguzi and his team and the body was taken to Kabale referral hospital mortuary for postmortem examination as they wait for the relatives to pick it up and take it to Kenya for burial.
