RDC Anbrose Mwesigye Amanyire at Kihihi High School Playground

NEWS- Kanungu District Security Committee chaired by the Resident District Commissioner Ambrose Mwesigye Amanyire has announced a total ban on consumption of livestock products with immediate effect in order to ably protect human beings from being infected with the deadly Anthrax disease that was confirmed by health officials to be in the District.

According to a notice released yesterday evening by Kanungu District Communications and Information Officer Ms Mwajuma Twaha Twongyeirwe, the general public has been strongly advised to desist from eating meat of goats, cows, sheep, pigs and its products like milk.

According to the announcement, the authorities have also banned the selling of livestock and also stopped them from moving from one place to another within Kanungu District.

“No movement or slaughter of animals is allowed in Kanungu District and anyone found doing so will face the consequences” the statement read in parts.

Kanungu RDC Mwesigye Amanyire earlier this week told journalists that the security agencies have been directed to apprehend anyone found in defiance of the directive to stop the movement of livestock.

This comes after Anthrax has been confirmed in cattle which has reportedly affected over 30 people, and claimed 3 people so far while a new patient has been registered at Mburameizi UPDF Health Center III hailing from Nyamirama Sub County.

The following district officials who include the District Veterinary Officer Dr. Tumwesigye Aloysius on 0775-550106, Mugisha Peter a Senior Agriculture Officer on 0782-204094, Dr Mutahunga Birungi District Health Officer Kanungu on 0776-123546 and Kato Besisira Assistant District Health Officer on 0777-398922 have been lined up for any emergency and can be contacted.
