NEWS– Suspected Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) militants have claimed the lives of at least 7 individuals in Kamwenge district in the fresh attacks on Uganda.
The attack according to sources is said to have unfolded during the early hours of Tuesday at Kyabandara Trading Center, catching residents unaware as they slept.
Eng Cuthbert Abigaba Mirembe, the Kibale County Member of Parliament in a statement stated that suspected ADF rebels invaded and carried out criminal activities in Kyabandara parish, Kamwenge district.
According to the Legislator, the incident confirms the rebels have infiltrated into our area and calls for increased vigilance by all of us.
“Let’s identify and report any suspects we come accross in our respective areas. I salute our security team in the district (RDC, DPC, DISO, UPDF) for responding fast and deploying appropriately. We hope to succeed over the enemy” said Abigaba.
Abigaba added that “It is a challenging situation in and around Kyabandara, I call upon our people to remain firm as security hunts for these bad elements. My most sincere condolences to the families that have lost their dear ones. May the souls of our friends rest in peace”.
Moses Tukundane, a local resident, revealed that the raids commenced at 1:00 AM, inducing shockwaves throughout Kamwenge.
In response, UPDF forces have swiftly deployed to the area to apprehend the assailants and reassure the public of their safety, as communicated by local leaders.
As of the latest update, the Police has not yet issued a statement on the incident.
President Museveni recently disclosed UPDF’s pursuit of an ADF faction responsible for sporadic raids, resulting in the loss of innocent lives.
These ADF elements, escaping UPDF’s aerial attacks in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), have resorted to sending small infiltrator groups, such as the one led by Njovu, implicated in the recent tourist killings.
Museveni reported on December 3, 2023, that efforts are underway to locate the remaining members of Njovu’s group in the Kibaale National Park area.
