Her Excellence Maria Hakanson

NEWS– The Ambassador of Sweden to Uganda Her Excellence Maria Hakanson has asked farmers in the Rwenzori Region to embrace organic coffee farming on the mountains and valleys to tap into the international markets to enhance their home incomes.

Her Excellency Maria Hakanson made the call while talking to members of Isebwe farmers marketing cooperative society in Ihani village Kyibirizi parish of Bugoye sub-county in Busongora North Kasese District.

Mr. Georges Onyango from Kenya who had accompanied the ambassador, noted that coffee is one of the agricultural products consumed in larger quantities especially in the outside countries a reason to why coffee farmers should plant more coffee; maintain it and its quality to get good market. 

In her speech Mrs Justine Musoki Munaba the cooperative chairperson noted that sofa they have a total membership of 1,995 members from the eight cooperatives including Ibanda growers cooperative, Katooke parish cooperative, Maliba coffee growers cooperative and Busongora county joint farmers cooperative among others.

Mrs. Munaba noted that there is need for strengthening the organizational capacity of the cooperative to operate more effectively and sustainably.

She says some increased coffee productivity and profitability which directly improves the livelihoods of the cooperative members.

Mr. Danes Kimugha the cooperative manager noted that they have a mission of the cooperative that offers excellent services to her members while focusing on improving the production, processing and marketing of quality coffee for a profitable market

Some of the farmers including Mr. George Mulere, Sylvia Muhindo and Mr. Ibrahim Muhindo revealed that through the Cooperative they have acquired more skills and knowledge about good methods of farming through the trainings organized by the cooperative.
