NEWS- The territorial Police in Kabale District have arrested one person and are hunting for others who allegedly severely assaulted a 14 year old Obama Ramathani on suspicion of being a criminal.
This according to Kigezi Regional Police Spokesman ASP Elly Maate was in the month of December 2024 at unknown date and time at Rushambya cell Kirigime ward Kabale municipality.
It’s alleged that, in early December 2024 at unknown time, at Rushambya cell, the suspect and others still at large attempted to cause the death of the victim who was beaten on suspicion that he was a criminal who had gone to steal at Orishaba Catherine’s house.
Maate adds that after the incident, he was dumped in the bush while unconscious until when a neighbour who was passing by came across him helplessly and in pain. The neighbor then called his father one Tibanyendera Ramathani who took him to the hospital for treatment.
Further that, upon reaching the hospital, he was examined and later it was observed that the legs of the victim had rotten to the extent of contracting cancer, a condition that prompted the hospital administration to amputate both legs.
On 1/01/2025, the father reported the matter at Kabale police station where a case of attempted murder was registered.
The scene of crime was visited, examined and documented, relevant statements were recorded from witnesses, the victim was examined and is still hospitalized at Kabale regional referral hospital.
One suspect whose particulars could not be revealed not to jeopardize investigations was arrested and in police custody as the hunt for others still at large is underway according to Maate.
