KAGADI- Two people have been electrocuted to death while lifting the metallic poles of the tent, which came into contact with un-insulated electric wires.
The incident happened on Tuesday at the Kamusegu Trading Center in Bwikara Sub County, Kagadi District.
Godad Tumwebaze, the LC3 Chairperson for Bwikara Sub County, confirmed the tragedy incident and said it happened at around 10 a.m as about twelve gentlemen were trying to erect a tent at a burial ceremony.
“The gentlemen were lifting the tent, and the metallic poles of the tent got in contact with uninsulated electric wires, which left two people dead” he disclosed.
The deceased have been identified as Mr. Sirasi Byamugisha, aged 46, a resident of Kamusegu Trading Centre in Bwikara Sub County, and Andrew Baguma, aged 24, a resident of Kataremwa in Nyakarongo Sub County.
The 10 victims who were hospitalized in critical condition include Asera Godon, Birahe Pius, Amanya, Tusabe Richard, Isingoma Kereb, Sirasi , Ruteha David , Butamanya Edward, Birungi Emmanuel and Katosabe Moses all residents of the same village.
Tumwebaze disclosed that other gentlemen who were the victims of the same incident were rushed to neighboring medical facilities and are responding to medication with a lot of optimism that they will survive.

The Bwikara Sub-County district Councilor Matia Kato said there was poor installation of the electrical cables because they always spark during windy conditions.
Matia calls on the government to extend support to the victims and to the bereaved families. The bodies were taken to Kagadi Hospital mortuary for post mortem.
By press time, our efforts to get comments on the matter from police and the Uganda Electricity Distribution Company Limited (UEDCL) were futile as they declined to speak to the media.
