MITOOMA- Police in Mitooma district have detained 2 men for allegedly murdering a 52 year old man.
The deceased is Mpeka Nephtali a resident of Kabira Village, Kikani parish, Nyakizinga sub – county in Mitooma district who was murdered in the night between 8th and 9th March 2024.
The two in police custody are Tumwesigye Yonosani 46 years, a brother to the deceased who happens to be an army man and Tumuramye Essau, son to the deceased, all residents of Kabira village in Nyakizinga sub – county.
It’s reported that the deceased sold off a portion of land on 8th March at Ugx 230,000= and in the evening went to drink with his brother and the son in the nearby trading centre. They all left for home at around 11pm and the suspects later found him at home where he was staying alone, fought and strangled him, leaving the body about 4 metres from the doorway.
Police was notified by Aryatuha Fred 42 years, GISO of Nyakizinga, visited the scene, documented it, recorded statements from Relatives, GISO and OC Nyakizinga police to assist in investigations.
Police officers searched at the residences of suspects and soiled clothes were recovered in the house of Tumuramye Essau and an exhibit of an itel phone belonging to the deceased was recovered in the house of Tumwesigye Yonosani. The body of the deceased was then taken to Kitagata General Hospital mortuary for postmortem examination.
The Greater Bushenyi police sookesman SSP Marcial Tumusiime confirmed the incident to this website stressing that inquiries into the matter are still at hand.
