Kigezi Region Police PRO ASP Elly Maate

The Police in Kisoro District are hunting for suspects who allegedly assaulted a 24 years old Mutwa leading to his death days after.

Kigezi Regional Police Spokesman Elly Maate confirmed the incident and said that it took place on 26th May 2025 at Koranya Trading Centre in Nyagakenke village in Gisozi Parish in Muramba Sub-county in Kisoro District.

It is alleged that the deceased was assaulted by one only known as Alsen who hit him using a wooden stick on the stomach for unknown reason and he ran away.

The deceased was then was escorted home by Baragwiza George, but before reaching home, they were waylaid by Nshimiye along the way and also assaulted them using also a wooden stick and ran away too.

Then the deceased now, continued home and the following day on 27th May 2025, the situation worsened and was taken to the clinic where he was given some treatment and went back home and has been undergoing treatment till 30th May 2025 night when he was discovered dead in his parents residence.

It was after this that the Batwa Leader reported the matter to Muramba Police Post and a case of murder was registered and Kisoro Central Police was informed of the same, the scene of crime was visited, processed and documented and statements were recorded from witnesses and postmortem examination was done and the body was then handed over to relatives for decent burial.

The Police has since appealed to anyone with knowledge of the whereabouts of the perpetrators, volunteer information so that the culprits are arrested and charged accordingly,

Meanwhile the Police in Kisoro District are investigating circumstances surrounding the death of a 72 years old man identified as Jackson Muhabura Kakoraki a resident of Kabitojo village in Kigeyo Ward in Nyanamo Town Council whose body was discovered in the morning of 1st June 2025 found in Rishekye village in Nyamuyaga Ward also in Nyanamo Town Council.

It’s alleged that the deceased was last seen on 31st May 2025 at night at Nyamuyaga Trading Centre enjoying his social evening and later left and went home,

Maate explained that he was however discovered lying dead along the way a few meters from his home with several deep cuts on his head.

The LC 1 chairperson of Rishekye village Erasmus Twinamatsiko immediately communicated to Nyanamo Police Post where a case of murder was registered and Kisoro Central Police Station was informed and the scene of crime was visited, processed and documented and the body was examined at the crime scene and later handed over to relatives for decent burial and inquiries are underway to hunt and arrest the suspects so that are charged accordingly.
