NEWS- The Police in Sheema District are investigating instances that led to an accident that claimed the lives of two people.
The accident occurred on Friday, 7th March 2025 at Mabanga Cell, Kabwohe, along the Bushenyi-Mbarara Road in Sheema District.
The crash involved a white Toyota Harrier, registration number UBF 355D, driven by Joseph Bwengye, 46, a teacher and resident of Rwishamiro Cell, Kanyeganyegye, Masheruka Town, Sheema District.
According to the police, Simon Atwiine, 47, the rider of a red Bajaj motorcycle, registration number UEZ 066K, and a resident of Rwanyinakaheire Cell, Rwamujojo Ward, Sheema Central Division in Sheema Municipality, along with an unidentified passenger, lost their lives.
It is alleged that the motor vehicle was traveling from Bushenyi towards Mbarara side when it collided with the motorcycle, which was coming from the opposite direction.
SSP Marcial Tumusiime, the Greater Bushenyi Police spokesperson, confirmed the incident, stating that the driver lost control of the vehicle and drifted into the opposite lane, critically injuring both the rider and the passenger.
Both victims were rushed to Kabwohe Health Centre IV and later referred to Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital, but unfortunately, they were pronounced dead upon arrival.
In a related development, the Police in Rubirizi District are searching for unknown assailants who murdered a 20-year-old man for reasons yet to be established.
The incident occurred on March 6, 2025, at an unspecified time in Nyandongo II Village, Nyandongo Parish, Katanda Sub-county, Rubirizi District.
Marcial Tumusiime, the Greater Bushenyi Police spokesperson, confirmed the incident and identified the deceased as Moses Mucunguzi, a resident of Nyandongo Village, Katanda Parish, Katanda Sub-county, Rubirizi District.
It is alleged that the deceased left home to buy a padlock for his door at Nyandongo Trading Center but never returned. His body was later found lying in a pool of blood in the middle of the road, with his neck severely cut.
Matitazari Banturaki, a 62-year-old peasant and resident of Nyandongo Village, stated that the deceased was known for stealing people’s property, which had earned him many enemies.
He added that the body was discovered lying on its back, fully clothed with sandals on, and the neck almost completely severed.
Tumusiime said the body was taken to Rugazi Health Centre IV for a postmortem examination.
