UBTEB boss Onesmus Oyesigye

NEWS– Uganda Business and Technical Examinations Board (UBTEB) has registered a total of 76 candidates with special needs to sit for the Competence-Based Assessments and examinations.

The exams for the July/August 2024 examinations series.

These will be assisted by over 100 support personnel.

Onesmus Oyesigye, the Executive Secretary of UBTEB, says the candidates are pursuing various TVET professions.

The categories are; Dyslexia 13, Visual impairment 26, hearing impairment 16, Hard of hearing, and Physical disability 21.

Oyesigye says the Special needs candidates will be accorded special examinational arrangements such as sign language interpreters, transcribers, and guides, and some will be accorded extra time and large fonts. 

He narrates that the special needs candidates are among the 58,995 candidates who will begin their exams on Monday and will conclude on 30th August at 454 examination centers.

Of the 58,995 candidates, 18,742 are female and 40,253 are male.

Onesmus Oyesigye, the Executive Secretary of UBTEB, says that all preparations for briefing Reconnoiters and delivery of all the necessary examination materials at various storage facilities has commenced today with the help of the Uganda Police Force.

Oyesigye narrates that to minimize the reoccurrence of examination malpractices, the Board carried out pre-inspection of selected examination centers ahead of the conduct of the Examinations to ascertain the readiness and suitability of the centers under UBTEB Rules on the conduct of Competence-Based examinations, assessment, and awards.

 “As part of vigilance and ensuring the security of examinations, the Board has deployed over 600 Reconnoiters and other monitors.  Given the practical and hands-on assessment of some modules, the Board will also deploy over 4000 Practical Assessors and verifiers to conduct on-the-spot practical assessments of candidates.”
