NEWS- Bishop Barham College of Uganda Christian University alias BBUC have been declared Champions of the 2023 Kigezi Districts’ Guild Leaders Association – KADGLA Sports Competitions after winning five major trophies.
The Kabale District based institution won the Boys and Girls Football Finals, Athletics and Netball.
They were also given the most prestigious trophy for overall best performance, at the closing event held at Kigezi High School Lower Playground, in Kabale Municipality.
Kabale University won the Volleyball finals for boys and girls, ranking second, while African College of Commerce and Technology –ACCT, Shalom Vocational Institute, and Kabale Technical Institute-KTI came in the third, fourth and fifth positions respectively.
The Boys Football Match climaxed the 2023 KADGLA Sports Competitions that started on October 31st and ended on November 2nd, 2023.
Third year student doing Bachelor of Arts in Education Douglas Sankara scored the only goal that gave BBUC 1-0 victory over ACCT. While addressing the Press after the match, Team Captain Gift Given Akatwijuka attributed their victory to hard work, and support from the University administration.
Earlier in the day, Precious Atwiine, Swifa Nduhukire and Justine Kobusigye found the net for BBUC to secure a 3-0 win against Kabale University in the Girls football final. BBUC Team Captain Deborah Kiconco said they were inspired by their Coach Alex Twinamasiko, and financial support from the University administration.
First year student of Education, Grace Tumushabe also led the BBUC Girls on the goal rampage that marked their triumph over Kabale University.
The Kabale Resident District Commissioner Godfrey Nyakahuma officiated as the Chief Guest at the ceremony to award the participants. Nyakahuma who was accompanied by the Central Division Chairperson Sam Arinaitwe, took the charge to handover certificates of participation, excellent performance, and the trophies.
He commended the Kigezi Districts’ Guild Leaders Association whose current president is David Bukenya, for including the annual sports competitions in their programs.
In his speech Bukenya who doubles as the Guild President of Rugarama School of Nursing and Midwifery, explained that KADGLA was initially a forum bringing together student leaders of higher academic institutions in Kabale District, but in March 2023, they agreed to expand it to the entire Kigezi region.
