The Uganda Prisons Service have categorically refuted false allegations of inhumane treatment at Uganda’s largest prison Luzira Upper Maximum Security Complex.
The Senior Commissioner of Prisons Frank Baine Mayanja who is also the Uganda Prisons Service Spokesman issued a press statement where he noted with concern the false and baseless allegations made by some opposition leaders and the family of Dr Kizza Besigye regarding his treatment at Luzira Prison.
Baine made it categorically clear that the claim that the facility is infested with bed bugs being used as a torture tool against him is grossly false.
Baine also pointed out that the allegations that Dr Kizza Besigye shares a ward with 15 other inmates yet in permanent isolation was a contradiction and the public is asked to disregard this misinformation.
He said that the Uganda Prisons Service reaffirms it’s position as a professional government Agency mandated to manage prisoners in accordance with the laws of the Republic of Uganda.
