KAMPALA- The Government of Uganda is set to host the 11th African Regional Forum7 on Sustainable Development (ARFSD), a significant event aimed at advancing the continent’s sustainable development agenda.

This comes after the Ugandan government and the Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) have officially signed an agreement to bring the forum to Uganda, signaling the country’s growing role in regional development efforts.

The agreement was signed by the State Minister for Foreign Affairs, Henry Okello Oryem, on behalf of the government of Uganda, and the Executive Secretary of the Economic Commission for Africa, Clever Gatete, on behalf of the Economic Commission for Africa.

The signing ceremony, which took place in Uganda, was attended by the country’s Prime Minister Rt Hon Robinah Nabbanja, who witnessed the historic agreement, further emphasizes the importance of this partnership in the pursuit of Africa’s sustainable development goals.

The forum, which will be held in Uganda, is expected to bring together various stakeholders from across the African continent, including government representatives, development partners, civil society, and private sector actors.

 Its primary goal is to review and discuss the progress made towards the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, as well as the African Union’s Agenda 2063 and this event provides an opportunity to address critical issues such as climate change, economic growth, poverty reduction and social inclusion.

The African Regional Forum on Sustainable Development serves as a collaborating on solutions that promote inclusive and sustainable development across the continent.

 It is reported that by hosting this event, Uganda will not only highlight its commitment to achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) but also strengthen its position as a key player in regional and global development discussions.

Uganda’s hosting of the 11th African Regional Forum on Sustainable Development is also seen as a step forward in the country’s efforts to build strong international partnerships and to showcase its progress in areas like environmental sustainability, economic development, and social welfare.

The forum will provide a unique opportunity for Uganda to engage with other African nations and the global community in addressing pressing developmental challenges.
